Internal Control Officer

About this role

Cedarcrest Hospitals Limited is recruiting a full-time Internal Control Officer to be based in Abuja or Lagos. The role focuses on ensuring internal controls across billing, inventory, procurement, payroll, expenses and general operational governance. The officer will verify invoices, monitor stock and procurement processes, conduct spot-checks and ward rounds, review payroll and expenses, oversee bank reconciliations, and ensure data integrity in the hospital’s systems. The position supports adherence to clinical and regulatory standards and maintains risk and control documentation. Candidates should be able to operate in a multispecialty private hospital environment and work with established SOPs and accreditation frameworks.

What you would do

• Review and sign off on invoicing from HMO/NHIA and corporate clients for proper pre-authorization and tariff accuracy
• Conduct weekly and monthly stock counts in pharmacies, theatres and stores and investigate variances
• Review procurement activities for three-way matching and value for money
• Perform routine and surprise checks and ward rounds to verify SOP adherence
• Ensure compliance with MDCN, PCN and clinical quality frameworks and review monthly payroll records
• Review petty cash, expense requests and patient refunds for proper approvals
• Review bank reconciliation statements and related records
• Review billing configurations, access controls and audit trails in the hospital systems
• Identify and escalate system overrides, discounts, waivers or charge modifications
• Maintain the Risk & Control Matrix and document control deficiencies and risks

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
• Experience in internal control, auditing, accounting or hospital administration preferred
• Knowledge of healthcare billing, procurement, payroll, and financial control processes
• Familiarity with hospital governance, SOPs and accreditation frameworks
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention to detail skills
• Ability to work across Abuja and Lagos locations or at least be based in one of the hubs
• Proficiency in hospital management systems and data integrity practices
