About this role
The role is for an Inlet System Operator at SEEPCO in Akwa Ibom, working within a large integrated production facility. The job focuses on front-end ammonia plant inlet systems, including natural gas reception, feed gas compression, and desulfurization, to supply clean feedstock for ammonia synthesis. The successful candidate will apply HSE-focused practices, operate and monitor DCS-controlled units, and manage reliability and asset integrity through CMMS and related processes. The position targets individuals with extensive experience in high-pressure gas processing, rotating equipment, and process safety, who can operate in hazardous areas and mentor junior staff. The employer is a premier oil, gas, and fertiliser production company with a global footprint and a commitment to safety and reliability.
What you would do
- Operate and monitor natural gas reception, feed gas compression, and desulfurization units via DCS and field panels.
- Maintain process parameters within safe operating limits to ensure a continuous supply of sulfur-free feed gas to the primary reformer.
- Control inlet equipment such as scrubbers, knockout drums, coalescers and high-pressure gas compressors for optimal performance.
- Manage catalyst bed temperatures and monitor breakthrough in desulfurization reactors to protect downstream catalysts.
- Analyse process trends and lab data to optimise amine circulation, steam use, and compressor anti-surge control.
- Execute start-ups, normal operations, and emergency shutdowns of inlet systems following SOPs.
- Identify bottlenecks and participate in deviation management and root cause analysis.
- Maintain asset integrity using AIMS and monitor for corrosion, erosion, and hydrates in high-pressure gas systems.
- Raise and close CMMS work orders, manage spares, and contribute to reliability-centred maintenance.
- Support safety, permit-to-work, LOTO, JSA, HAZID, and toolbox talks; adhere to Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions arise.
What they are asking for
- OND, HND, BEng/BSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Gas Engineering, or a recognised advanced technical certification in Process Operations.
- At least 5 years of hands-on operation as a Panel/Field Operator in front-end/gas processing or related large-scale plants (ammonia, fertiliser, petrochemical, or gas processing).
- Proven experience with high-pressure gas compressors, amine/TEG systems, and desulfurization reactors.
- Strong understanding of gas sweetening, dehydration, high-pressure compression thermodynamics, and catalyst protection.
- Ability to read P&id/ PFDs, compressor curves, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
- Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems (Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson) and APC concepts.
- Valid HSE certifications (Level 1, 2, 3) and awareness of Process Safety Management; CompEx or equivalent is an advantage.
- BOSIET/HUET and offshore medical if site rotation is required.
