HSE Officer (Contract)
About this role
Micdee Designs Limited, an interior fit-out company in Lagos, is seeking a Health, Safety and Environment Officer on a four-month contract. The role focuses on implementing and monitoring HSE policies, promoting safety culture, and ensuring compliance with HSE standards across project sites during the contract period. The officer will conduct site inspections, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and investigations of incidents, while maintaining HSE records and liaising with project teams and subcontractors. The position targets individuals with relevant HSE qualifications and construction or project-based experience who can enforce safety procedures in a fast-paced environment.
What you would do
- Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures and safety standards across project sites
- Conduct routine site inspections, safety audits and risk assessments
- Ensure workers, subcontractors and visitors comply with safety procedures
- Conduct toolbox talks and other HSE awareness sessions for site personnel
- Monitor PPE usage and enforce safety requirements
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe practices
- Maintain accurate HSE records (inspection reports, incident registers, risk assessments, training records)
- Monitor housekeeping, waste management, emergency preparedness and environmental practices on site
- Ensure safety equipment is available and maintained (signage, extinguishers, first-aid, etc)
- Follow up on safety violations and implement corrective actions promptly
What they are asking for
- BSc/HND in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Building Technology, or related field
- 2 - 4 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably in construction or interior fit-out
- HSE certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH are an advantage
- Knowledge of construction site hazards, risk assessments, incident reporting and accident prevention
- Understanding of Nigerian HSE regulations and workplace safety standards
- Strong observation, documentation, communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to enforce safety rules firmly and professionally
- Attention to detail and confidence to intervene in unsafe practices
- Ability to work effectively with site teams in a fast-paced project environment
