Head of Strategy
About this role
The Head of Strategy at VFD Group, an alternative financial services holding company operating in Nigeria, will be a key member of the executive team responsible for shaping and driving the group’s strategic direction. The role involves leading the annual strategic planning process, providing hands-on support to underperforming portfolio companies, and guiding investment decisions to improve portfolio performance.
What you would do
- Lead the annual strategic planning process and oversee its execution and monitoring
- Provide strategic leadership and hands-on support to underperforming portfolio companies to drive turnaround and growth
- Evaluate portfolio performance with the TIMS team and identify actions to optimise returns and mitigate risks
- Contribute strategic input to the evaluation of new investments and potential divestments
- Stay abrest of industry trends, competitive landscape and regulatory factors affecting portfolio companies
- Lead and mentor the Strategy team to foster high performance and collaboration

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field
- MBA or other relevant postgraduate qualification (preferred)
- 10 to 15 years of experience in a senior strategic role, preferably in a holding company, private equity firm, or management consultancy in Nigeria
- Proven track record in developing and implementing corporate and business-level strategies, with experience in investment analysis and portfolio management
- Deep understanding of the Nigerian business environment, including regulatory and market dynamics
- Strong analytical, financial modelling, communication, and leadership skills
