Head of Finance (Downstream Oil and Gas sector)

About this role

A Head of Finance role based in Lagos overseeing finance and accounting for the company’s retail service stations and other locations nationwide in the downstream oil and gas sector. The position targets an experienced senior finance professional with strong knowledge of fuel sales, inventory, cash collections and high-volume transactions to support strategic and commercial decision making.

What you would do

• Provide leadership and strategic direction for the finance and accounting function nationwide.
• Oversee financial management of all retail service stations and operational locations for accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure daily closure of accounts and timely posting, reconciliation and resolution of transactions.
• Coordinate and produce daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and management accounts.
• Maintain financial controls over fuel sales, inventory, cash, bank transactions, receivables and payables.
• Monitor station profitability and provide analysis to inform pricing, costs and performance.

What they are asking for

• 8 - 12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with senior management exposure.
• Strong experience in the downstream oil and gas sector, especially petroleum retail or service station operations.
• Experience managing finance across multiple retail outlets or geographically dispersed sites.
• Hands-on experience with high-volume transactions and daily reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Sage for accounting, reporting and reconciliation.
• Chartered Accountant qualification (ICAN or ACCA) and knowledge of Nigerian tax and reporting standards.
