Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform
About this role
Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform at Moniepoint Incorporated, Lagos (remote). You will own the technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform and act as the domain CTO for software running on POS devices, leading platform engineering across multiple squads.
What you would do
- Define and govern the four core platform pillars: developer experience, platform reliability, foundational frameworks, and squad adoption.
- Set and enforce engineering standards across POS device types and OEM manufacturers to ensure consistency and quality.
- Functionally lead POS engineers embedded across Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings and Loans squads.
- Own POS observability end-to-end: monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks for platform health.
- Architect how multiple POS device types are onboarded, governed, and integrated with the platform; collaborate with OEM partners and the hardware team when new device types are introduced.
- Build and scale the POS platform team, including hiring, mentoring, and structuring for growth; establish engineering processes, tooling standards, and CI/CD pipelines.
What they are asking for
- A minimum of 10 years hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 6 years leading engineering teams through meaningful growth, ideally in multinational or large VC-backed companies.
- Direct hands-on experience building software that runs on POS terminal devices (device application layer).
- Strong working knowledge of EMV standards and experience with PCI DSS and P2PE certification processes.
- Deep Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java.
- Proven experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks used by other engineering teams.
- Experience governing or architecting across multiple POS device types from different hardware manufacturers, with understanding of OEM integrations and device management at scale.
