Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform

About this role

Head of Engineering for the POS Application Platform at Moniepoint in Lagos. The role owns the technical direction of the POS platform that runs on all devices, serving as the platform domain CTO and leading a team that provides standards, tooling and architecture across markets.

What you would do

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform, acting as the domain CTO for all POS device software.
• Build and govern the four core platform pillars across the organisation: developer experience, platform reliability, foundational frameworks, and squad adoption.
• Define and enforce engineering standards across all POS device types and OEM manufacturers to ensure architectural consistency.
• Lead POS engineers embedded across multiple squads (Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, Loans), providing the platform layer above them.
• Own POS observability end-to-end: monitoring, alerting, and incident response to ensure platform health.
• Build and scale the POS platform team for growth across markets, including hiring and mentoring.

What they are asking for

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 6 years leading engineering teams, preferably in multinational or VC-backed companies.
• Direct hands-on experience building software that runs on POS terminal devices (device application layer), not server-side integrations.
• Strong knowledge of EMV standards and experience with PCI DSS and P2PE certification processes.
• Deep Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java.
• Proven experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks.
• Experience governing across multiple POS device types from different hardware manufacturers.
