CredPal is seeking a Head of Credit in Lagos who will own the credit strategy, underwriting framework, portfolio quality, risk appetite and lending performance for both consumer and business lending. The role aims to balance growth, risk, customer experience and profitability, ensuring scalable lending with strong credit quality. It is suited to a commercially minded credit leader who uses credit judgement, data, technology and portfolio insights to drive sustainable lending growth.
What you would do
- Define and lead the overall credit strategy for CredPal across consumer and business lending.
- Own portfolio performance, quality, growth and profitability while balancing risk with commercial objectives.
- Develop and refine credit policies, underwriting standards, approval authorities, limits, exceptions and risk appetite frameworks.
- Oversee underwriting to ensure data-driven, consistent credit decisions across consumer and business lending.
- Lead portfolio monitoring and early-warning activities, including delinquency, defaults, PAR, NPLs, roll rates, concentration and vintage performance.
- Drive risk-based pricing and the development of scorecards, decision rules and automated decisioning; collaborate with Product, Data and Engineering on models and automation.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Statistics or related field; postgraduate degree advantageous.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in credit, lending, risk, portfolio management or underwriting with significant leadership experience.
- Experience in banking, fintech, consumer lending or business lending within financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sizeable credit portfolios and deliver sustainable portfolio growth.
- Strong knowledge of credit policies, risk appetite, underwriting standards, risk segmentation and portfolio controls; experience with business lending analysis.
- Experience with credit scoring, automated decisioning, risk models and data-driven lending; familiarity with fraud risk, stress testing and early-warning systems; strong analytical skills and stakeholder management; professional qualifications such as CFA, FRM, ACA, ACCA, ICAN being advantageous.
