Head of Brokerage and International Operations

About this role

GIG Logistics is seeking a Head of Brokerage and International Operations in Lagos. The role oversees customs brokerage teams, builds relationships with regulatory authorities, and aims to optimise clearance processes and drive business growth. It provides strategic leadership for the company’s customs brokerage activities to ensure compliant and efficient import and export clearance, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The position involves collaboration with multiple internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver end-to-end logistics solutions.

What you would do

• Collaborate with Sales, Freight Forwarding, Operations, Finance and Customer Experience teams to deliver logistics solutions.
• Develop and implement brokerage strategies to improve efficiency, service delivery and profitability.
• Identify and mitigate compliance, operational and commercial risks in brokerage activities.
• Lead and oversee all customs brokerage operations to ensure timely and compliant clearance.
• Monitor KPIs, cargo clearance timelines and customer service performance and implement improvements.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Brokerage team.
• Ensure compliance with Nigeria Customs Service regulations and other trade/government requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, shipping lines, terminal operators and key stakeholders.
• Prepare management reports, analyses and strategic recommendations to support growth.
• Oversee customs documentation, tariff classification, valuation, and duty assessment.

What they are asking for

• 8–10 years of experience in Customs Brokerage, Freight Forwarding, Shipping, International Trade or Logistics, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant systems (customs brokerage, freight forwarding or ERP).
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Maritime Studies, Law, Economics or related discipline.
• Professional certifications in Customs Administration, Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain Management or International Trade are an added advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities focused on operational excellence.
• Proven experience managing customs clearance operations and engaging with regulatory authorities.
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classification, valuation and trade compliance.
• Experience in logistics, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, shipping, maritime, aviation cargo or international trade is preferred.
