Head of Audit (Downstream Oil & Gas Sector)
About this role
A Head of Audit role in Lagos overseeing internal audit, risk management and compliance for the company, with a focus on downstream oil and gas operations. What you would do
- Create and execute a risk-based internal audit plan for retail stations, depots, transport, finance and procurement.
- Assess internal controls, identify vulnerabilities, and propose improvements to prevent fraud and losses.
- Lead field audits at stations and terminals, including cash control, dip reconciliation and inventory variance investigations.
- Perform in-depth financial audits, revenue assurance tests, procurement reviews, and investigations into irregularities or compliance breaches.
- Prepare audit reports with findings, risks, and management recommendations; monitor remediation actions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax laws, NMDPRA regulations and corporate policies.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Full professional certification (ICAN or ACCA) mandatory.
- CIA or CISA considered an added advantage.
- 8 to 10 years of progressive audit experience, with 3 to 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in downstream oil and gas (retail) operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of wet-stock auditing, inventory reconciliation, accounting software (e.g., Zoho Books, QuickBooks), forensic investigation and risk analysis.
