About this role

Head of Department for obstetrics and gynaecology with paediatrics in Lagos, responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership of the department. The role oversees clinical standards and governance, organises medical staff, and ensures integration with the wider hospital and managed-care arrangements.

What you would do

• Set, maintain and audit standards of clinical care, patient safety and governance across the obstetrics & gynaecology and paediatrics department.
• Organise medical staffing, rotas, clinics and ward cover to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Lead the diagnosis and management of complex cases, providing senior clinical decision-making and referral oversight.
• Supervise, mentor, appraise and support the development of consultants, medical officers and trainees.
• Ensure effective interface with diagnostics, pharmacy, nursing and managed-care/HMO processes.
• Participate in hospital committees and represent the department in clinical and management forums.

What they are asking for

• MBBS or MBChB from a recognised institution.
• Completion of housemanship/internship and NYSC, or valid exemption.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of post-fellowship specialist experience in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics, including at least 2 years in a departmental leadership or supervisory role.
• Substantial post-fellowship experience as a specialist in the discipline and demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate a clinical team or unit.
• Experience in clinical governance, quality assurance, audit and the supervision and appraisal of medical staff.
• Strong knowledge of obstetrics & gynaecology and paediatrics across the patient pathway; ability to organise medical staffing and lead clinical teams.
