Hausa Transcriber-Translator

About this role

AIDHealth Inc. seeks a Hausa transcriber–translator in Akwa Ibom to convert Hausa cognitive-interview recordings into verbatim Hausa text and English translations, delivered in a two-column format aligned by timestamp. The role targets native Hausa speakers with Kano dialect knowledge and experience in transcription or translation for research or media projects.

What you would do

• Transcribe Hausa recordings verbatim in standard orthography.
• Translate the transcription into English in a two-column, timestamp-aligned format.
• Preserve Hausa idioms with brief notes and flag misunderstood words or questions.
• Maintain confidentiality of all material.
• Deliver transcripts within five working days.
• Ensure accuracy and fidelity to the speaker's meaning.

What they are asking for

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Hausa, Linguistics, Translation, English or related field.
• At least 3 years of Hausa–English transcription or translation for research or media.
• Native Hausa speaker with Kano dialect knowledge (Kananci).
• Excellent written English.
• Experience with sensitive topics (preferred: health, gender or family life).
• Accuracy, patience and discretion with sensitive information.
