About this role
Role involves coding Hausa social media content and performing related translation and quality checks for a non-profit health organisation. Targeted at candidates who are native Hausa speakers with experience in research assistance, coding, transcription or translation.
What you would do
- Code Hausa social media posts for tone, stance, theme and narrative on a secure annotation platform
- Double-code a gold-standard reference set and participate in weekly reliability checks
- Translate selected quotes into English
- Flag posts that may risk an identifiable person following safeguarding protocol
- Submit community feedback reports through the project reporting line
- Engage with research activities on gender, health or protection as needed (preferred)
What they are asking for
- First degree in social science, language, media or related field
- At least 2 years of experience in research assistance, qualitative coding, transcription or translation
- Native Hausa speaker who reads Boko (Roman-script Hausa) and ideally Ajami (Arabic-script Hausa) with good written English
- Active user of Hausa social media and familiar with slang, proverbs and code-switching
- Preferred: experience on gender, health or protection research projects
- Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision
