Grant Associate
About this role
Extension Africa is seeking a Grant Associate to manage the full funding portfolio from identifying new opportunities with large institutional funders to strengthening existing donor relationships. The role is strategic and high accountability, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer through the Development Unit. The position is based in Abuja on a 12-month contract, renewable based on performance and funding. The role involves deciding which opportunities to pursue and which to decline, aligning with the organisation’s funding strategy.
What you would do
- Identify and develop a pipeline with large institutional funders
- Manage end-to-end grant acquisitions and donor engagements
- Prepare and submit proposals to major funders
- Coordinate with technical teams to assemble donor-ready budgets and documentation
- Assess and select funding opportunities, including declines when appropriate
- Maintain and deepen relationships with donors and funders
- Collaborate on consortium bids and multi-country programmes
- Contribute to donor compliance and reporting standards
- Prepare writing samples and cite secure awards as needed
- Support strategic decision-making on funding pursuits
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in International Development, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration or related field
- Master's degree is an added advantage
- 3 to 5 years in grant acquisition, resource mobilisation or business development with demonstrable wins
- Direct experience preparing submissions to at least one major institutional funder
- Proven written proposal track record with awards cited on request
- Working knowledge of donor compliance frameworks and donor budget building
- Strong coordination skills across technical teams without direct line authority
- Experience with consortium bids, prime-subcontractor arrangements or multi-country programmes is an advantage
- French proficiency relevant to West and Central Africa expansion is an advantage
