Frontend Engineer (Hybrid)
About this role
Caava Group is recruiting for an entry-level Frontend Engineer to work on its Evolve insurance management platform. The role is based in Lagos with hybrid work arrangements and reports to the Technical Lead of the Evolve team. The position focuses on building and improving frontend screens in Angular or Next.js, integrating REST APIs, and contributing to testing, code reviews, and releases under guidance. The role supports growth towards more independent, larger tasks and potentially moving toward a Associate Software Engineer position based on performance and business need.
What you would do
- Build assigned features and bug fixes in Angular or Next.js according to designs and acceptance criteria
- Reuse the shared design system and components, raising gaps when needed
- Integrate REST APIs and manage validation, loading, empty and error states
- Create responsive, accessible forms and user journeys
- Submit small, reviewable changes via Git branches and pull requests
- Explain approach, apply feedback and keep technical documentation up to date
- Write and maintain unit and component tests covering normal, boundary and failure cases
- Collaborate with QA for cross-browser checks, defect reproduction and fix verification
- Investigate issues using browser tools and logs, record evidence and escalate high-risk problems
- Clarify requirements and API contracts with backend, Product and QA before implementation and raise blockers early
What they are asking for
- Foundational TypeScript or JavaScript, HTML and CSS skills
- Experience with a component framework (Angular, React or Next.js) from coursework, internship or project
- Basic knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP and JSON
- Version control using Git
- Ability to write basic automated tests and explain code
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent practical training
- Clear communication, collaborative approach and willingness to act on feedback
- Attention to detail and user-focused mindset
