Finance Specialist

About this role

A humanitarian organisation is seeking a Finance Specialist in Abuja to support financial planning, budget management and donor reporting for the mission. The role targets professionals with experience in finance or accounting, including donor-funded programmes, and prior exposure to INGO environments are valued.

What you would do

• Review and optimise the mission's Financial Plan across various cost areas and contractual inputs.
• Support development and input of annual financial assumptions and yearly landing aligned with mission strategy.
• Prepare budgets and donor reports, and ensure budget allocations align with forecasts and donor requirements.
• Monitor and analyse budget performance, notify on variances, and support grant financial status updates to leadership.
• Support compliance, risk assessment, and implementation of internal controls; work with auditors and address audit recommendations.
• Build finance team capacity through training, induction, and ongoing development for budget management tools and policies.

What they are asking for

• 3+ years in finance or accounting, with donor-funded programme experience preferred.
• Knowledge of donor rules, compliance requirements and Nigerian statutory rules.
• Experience in INGO or similar organisations and with supervising staff.
• Strong organisational skills, planning ability, and capability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to negotiate, influence and provide feedback.
