Environmental Safety Officer
About this role
Environmental Safety Officer role based in Lagos for WAEP. The role supports implementing WAEP's environmental, health and safety requirements across office, field and offshore operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, environmental protection and safe work practices with a focus on continuous HSSE performance improvement. The position is suited to a candidate with substantial HSE experience, preferably in upstream oil and gas.
What you would do
- Implement and monitor environmental and safety programmes, procedures and controls across assigned operations.
- Conduct workplace inspections, environmental monitoring, risk assessments and compliance reviews.
- Support Permit to Work, Job Safety Analysis, toolbox talks, SIMOPS and other operational safety processes.
- Monitor waste management, spill prevention, emissions, effluent and other environmental performance requirements.
- Identify unsafe acts, conditions and environmental non-conformities and track corrective actions to closure.
- Support incident, near-miss and environmental event investigations, root-cause analysis and lessons learned.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline.
- 8-12 years of relevant environmental/HSE experience, preferably within upstream oil and gas operations.
- Relevant HSE/environmental professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISPON or equivalent are strongly preferred.
