English Language and Literature Teacher
About this role
Halifield Schools in Lagos is looking for an English Language and Literature Teacher to join its college team. The role involves delivering high-quality English Language and Literature instruction, preparing students for internal and external exams, and supporting their academic development. The teacher will plan and deliver lessons, assess students, and provide feedback, while maintaining a positive and well-managed classroom. Collaboration with colleagues and participation in departmental activities are expected, along with keeping up to date with curriculum and examination requirements.
What you would do
- Plan, prepare and deliver English Language and Literature lessons aligned with the curriculum
- Teach and support students across relevant secondary school levels
- Prepare students for WAEC, NECO, IGCSE and other external examinations
- Develop reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, speaking and literary analysis skills
- Introduce and analyse a range of literary texts, themes, characters, devices, and critical interpretation
- Create lesson plans, teaching resources, assignments, assessments and instructional materials
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback
- Identify students needing additional support and implement interventions
- Maintain records of performance, attendance, assessments and progress
- Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom and effective behaviour management; participate in departmental activities and school events

- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Literature-in-English, Education or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ teaching experience in a secondary school or college
- Experience preparing students for WAEC, NECO and/or IGCSE examinations
- Strong knowledge of English Language and Literature curriculum
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong classroom management and lesson delivery skills
- Ability to engage students with different abilities and learning needs
- Strong organisational and assessment skills
- Recognised teaching qualification or certification (advantage)
