About this role
A Lagos-based educational institution is seeking a full-time English Language and Literature-in-English Teacher with a Cambridge IGCSE specialisation. The role focuses on delivering Cambridge IGCSE content, analysing literary texts, and helping students perform well in external examinations. The candidate should have strong literature knowledge, clear instructional skills, and experience teaching IGCSE curricula. The position involves lesson planning, assessment, curriculum alignment, and supporting students academically and pastorally. Boarding school responsibilities may be required where applicable.
What you would do
- Monitor and analyse students’ performance and address learning gaps
- Teach and prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations using appropriate methods and assessment techniques
- Guide students in critical analysis and interpretation of literary texts (themes, characterisation, structure, language, devices)
- Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development, and assessment moderation
- Interpret and align teaching with Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses and examination requirements
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, materials, and assessments
- Differentiate instruction to meet varying learning needs while maintaining high expectations
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in Literature-in-English and understanding of relevant curricula
- Help students construct well-supported literary arguments and improve analytical writing
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons across poetry, prose and drama and support overall student well-being
What they are asking for
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant teaching experience (secondary/high school preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English and Literary Studies, English Education or closely related field
- Strong knowledge of Cambridge IGCSE assessment objectives and marking expectations
- Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English and/or Literature
- Excellent communication, lesson planning, classroom management and student engagement skills
- Ability to teach literary texts in depth and develop analytical thinking and writing
- Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)
- Cambridge Assessment examiner training or marking experience is an advantage
- Experience in international, premium or boarding school environment is an advantage
