FairMoney Microfinance Bank in Lagos is hiring an Engineering Manager (RCL) to lead a backend-focused engineering team responsible for lending and credit products. The role combines technical leadership with people management, aligning engineering work with Product, Data, Risk and other stakeholders. You will oversee engineering execution, set technical direction, and ensure system reliability and scalability. What you would do
- Lead and develop a team of software engineers to foster a high-performing engineering culture
- Own the technical direction and delivery of systems supporting lending and credit products
- Collaborate with Product, Risk, Data and other teams to define solutions and priorities
- Design, develop and scale backend services and distributed systems
- Make architectural decisions to ensure scalable, maintainable and resilient solutions
- Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, deployment, observability and reliability
- Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and problem-solving support to engineers
- Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks and reliability issues
- Plan, prioritise and ensure timely delivery of engineering initiatives
- Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis and follow-up and support hiring and team growth

- 7+ years in software engineering with strong backend experience (Golang)
- 2+ years in management or team leadership of engineers
- Hands-on coding experience and ability to design and code new systems
- Experience designing and building distributed systems and scalable backends
- Experience in lending, fintech, payments or related financial domain
- Strong relational database design, optimisation and querying skills
- Knowledge of software architecture, APIs, microservices and event-driven systems
- Proven track record delivering complex technical projects from design to production
- Experience with CI/CD, testing, monitoring and production operations
- Mentoring and developing technical talent with good communication and stakeholder management skills
