About this role
Supabase is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Billing team. The role oversees monetisation and revenue systems that convert platform usage into customer charges and revenue data, including plans, subscriptions, usage-based billing, invoices, payments, credits, taxes, dunning, pricing, entitlements, marketplace and partner billing, with integrations to providers like Stripe and Orb. The position involves people, delivery and technical leadership, contributing to architecture and design without direct production coding. It requires managing a remote, globally distributed team and ensuring billing systems are correct, reliable, and scalable. The role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, finance, data, support and partnerships and requires strong collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
What you would do
- Build and maintain a healthy, high-trust remote team culture.
- Conduct 1:1s, performance management, career development and onboarding for direct reports.
- Coach engineers across backend code, data pipelines, external integrations and operational workflows.
- Establish durable ownership to prevent knowledge silos around critical billing systems.
- Handle people administration including leave and time off for the team.
- Own the hiring plan for the Billing team and act as Hiring Manager for roles on the team.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to source and onboard candidates with billing-domain depth and engineering judgment.
- Contribute to headcount planning and engineering leadership evolution at Supabase.
- Own the Billing roadmap and manage delivery in Linear with clear milestones.
- Balance new pricing/product capabilities with system correctness, resilience and debt reduction.
What they are asking for
- 5+ years of engineering experience with credibility with engineers building complex systems.
- 3+ years of managing remote engineering teams.
- Experience managing a billing engineering team at a cloud, SaaS or developer tools company (billing domain preferred).
- Experience leading remote, globally distributed teams that work asynchronously across time zones.
- Strong people management mindset with focus on psychological safety and feedback culture.
- Proven ability to coach rather than direct, remove blockers, and empower engineers to own work.
- Track record of performance management with examples of difficult conversations.
- Ability to operate amid ambiguity and create structure where needed.
- Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable with async, written communication.
- Collaborative, low-ego style suitable for senior ICs with strong technical opinions.
