Engineering Manager, Automation Intelligence
About this role
Fingerprint is seeking an Engineering Manager for an Automation Intelligence team. The role leads a small, senior engineering group to build detection for automation in browsers and at the edge, with a focus on classifying automation types and providing an API for customers and their agents. The manager will ship the product from Beta through GA to a standalone commercial launch and report to the VP of Engineering. Fingerprint is a fully remote company that serves clients ranging from startups to large enterprises. The company operates in the device intelligence and fraud detection space and emphasises AI-native engineering practices and contract-first APIs.
What you would do
- Own the engineering plan from Beta to GA and standalone launch, including estimates and readiness evidence
- Define and prove the service operating envelope (throughput, latency tails, availability SLOs) before customer use
- Coordinate staged rollouts for detection changes with feature flags and rollback
- Turn feedback into prioritized engineering work and oversee detection quality initiatives
- Manage, coach, and grow a team of senior engineers and lead hiring
- Set team goals and align decisions with leadership, communicating intent with reasoning
- Establish engineering practices such as ownership lines, review tiers, and cycle-time baselines
- Negotiate working agreements with sibling teams and drive gradual decoupling for independent deploys
- Operate the AI-native engineering model with agent-first development workflows and governance
- Ensure contract-first APIs with OpenAPI in repo, CI breaking-change detection, and observable services

- 3+ years of engineering management experience shipping products through launch
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Domain depth in bot detection/bot management, fraud prevention, web security, browser/client-side engineering, or high-volume API services
- Experience with measurement-driven engineering (test corpora, FP/FN, regression suites, SLOs)
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools and leading a team where AI agents are standard
- Cross-functional collaboration with product, research, and customer-facing teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain detection quality and readiness to executives
- Nice to have: Direct experience with bot detection/anti-automation products and familiarity with AI agent ecosystems
- Nice to have: Experience in environments with adversarial automation and security contexts
