Corporate Legal Counsel
About this role
A Corporate Legal Counsel role based in Lagos, focused on providing proactive legal advisory to BAT Nigeria and supporting the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation as Company Secretary. The role involves counsel to the Nigerian commercial trade unit, handling corporate and regulatory matters, and collaborating with the SSA legal team on business objectives applicable to Nigeria.
What you would do
- Provide legal and commercially driven counselling to internal teams to guide decisions
- Provide Company Secretarial support to the BAT Nigeria Foundation (Limited by Guaranty) and support Board/Management
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and develop standard formats to protect the company’s interests
- Advise on corporate and commercial projects, regulatory inquiries, audits, banks, guarantees and tax matters
- Offer employment law guidance including dispute resolution and compliance with employment regulations
- Support litigation management and liaise with regulators as required

- Qualified Lawyer with at least 10 years post-qualification experience
- Experience in commercial and regulatory law with knowledge of tobacco industry regulatory landscape
- Strong written and spoken communication and ability to explain legal issues to non-lawyers
- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across business units
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience in a multinational or commercial service environment
- Confidentiality and objectivity in providing legal advice
