About this role
Supabase is seeking a Container Engineer to own and improve the internal container platform that runs its multi-tenant, multi-region services. The role focuses on making the platform trustworthy, observable, and cost-efficient at scale, with emphasis on automation, platform APIs, and incident response. Candidates should be deeply experienced in at least one of three areas: tooling and ecosystem, software engineering, or operational/SRE practices, with broad knowledge across the others. The job involves contributing to platform reliability, building production code for automation and controllers, and guiding on-call practices for teams using the platform. The team values remote work, global collaboration, and a strong open-source, developer-focused culture.
What you would do
- Define SLIs/SLOs and error budgets for the container platform and implement policies around them.
- Own the Operational Readiness Review process for new platform capabilities and major changes.
- Design and track platform metrics, logs, and traces to improve observability.
- Lead blameless postmortems and drive systemic improvements from incidents.
- Build and maintain automation, controllers, operators, and internal tooling as production code.
- Design and implement platform CI/CD and rollout primitives within proper change management.
- Implement and maintain security automation including intrusion detection and patch management.
- Identify operational toil and develop automation to remove it.
- Contribute to platform testing automation to validate releases for tenants.
- Act as reliability and architecture expert for multi-tenant container workloads.
What they are asking for
- 5+ years in platform engineering, container/Kubernetes platform operations, SRE, or production infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: tooling & ecosystem, software engineering, or operational/SRE practices (and familiarity with others).
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerd/OCI, and CNCF ecosystem tools (e.g., Argo CD/Rollouts, Cilium/eBPF, Karpenter/KEDA).
- Ability to design production-grade software (Go or similar) and build controllers, operators, and platform APIs.
- Experience with AWS, infrastructure as code (Pulumi preferred; Terraform/CDK acceptable), and Kubernetes.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration across infrastructure and product teams.
- Ability to operate in async, globally distributed teams and navigate ambiguity.
