About this role

Role: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja. The post involves independently managing the full care path for musculoskeletal conditions, providing clinical leadership to the orthopaedic service, and contributing to teaching, research, and governance. It is for fellowship‑trained orthopaedic surgeons with at least five years post‑fellowship experience.

What you would do

• Lead inpatient ward rounds.
• Lead outpatient clinics.
• Independently manage a comprehensive orthopaedic caseload including trauma and elective cases.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, interpret imaging, and document findings and plans.
• Prescribe and adjust analgesics, antibiotics, and anticoagulants per approved protocols.
• Perform a range of orthopaedic procedures independently (e.g., fracture care, arthroplasty, arthroscopy) and participate in spinal procedures where credentialed.

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Surgeons, or an internationally recognised equivalent.
• Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and a valid practising licence, or eligibility to obtain Nigerian registration and licence.
• Minimum of five years of post-fellowship experience in Orthopaedic Surgery with a strong surgical portfolio.
• Demonstrated competence in a broad range of orthopaedic procedures including trauma, fracture fixation, arthroplasty, and arthroscopy; subspecialty expertise advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to teach, participate in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement activities.
