Consultant Intensivist

About this role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja seeks a Consultant Intensivist to lead the ICU and provide expert care to critically ill patients. The role focuses on guiding a multidisciplinary team, advancing critical care through quality, education and research, and upholding international patient safety standards.

What you would do

• Lead daily multidisciplinary ICU rounds and develop evidence-based management plans.
• Perform and interpret advanced diagnostics and monitoring, including point-of-care ultrasound and bronchoscopy.
• Manage a wide range of critical illnesses and tailor pharmacological regimens for each patient.
• Perform invasive procedures with strict infection control and safety practices.
• Act as primary consultant for referring physicians; coordinate care with ED, theatres and wards; communicate with families.
• Participate in quality improvement, protocol development, audits, and staff education.

• MD or equivalent Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
• Certification in Critical Care Medicine.
• Board certification in Internal Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Surgery or Pulmonary Medicine.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a consultant after fellowship.
• Current valid medical licence to practise.
• Proficient in advanced airway management and point-of-care ultrasound.
