Communication Officer
About this role
The role is for a Communications Officer based in Maiduguri, Borno. The officer supports media management, content production and dissemination to strengthen INTERSOS external communications and visibility in Nigeria. They contribute to the operational communication strategy and work to build INTERSOS recognition and engagement locally. The organisation focuses on humanitarian assistance to disaster and conflict-affected populations and is recruiting to enhance its communications capacity in-country.
What you would do
- Organise events for local media such as press conferences or briefings
- Publish posts on the mission Facebook page and manage its functioning for accountability and community communication
- Monitor national and international media and relevant content for INTERSOS programmes
- Produce multimedia materials (photos, videos, newsletters) for external communications
- Provide training to staff to improve multimedia content production
- Create written materials like press releases, Q&As and updates about INTERSOS activities
- Disseminate INTERSOS content in local languages and through local media channels
- Identify communications tools and adapt materials for local audiences
- Support the organisation of field media visits and coordinate with HQ on materials requests
- Maintain relationships with media contacts and facilitate interviews for INTERSOS spokespeople

- Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field (preferable)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, journalism or public relations in Nigeria
- English, Hausa and Kanuri language skills are crucial
- Experience in media relations and external communications
- Ability to produce multimedia content and manage social media and media monitoring
- Experience coordinating with Project/Programme managers and donors on visibility requirements
