Colorectal/Colonoscopy Surgeon
About this role
The Colorectal/Colonoscopy Surgeon role is based at The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja and provides specialised diagnosis, treatment and management of colorectal diseases. It involves performing advanced colonoscopy and complex colorectal surgery within a multidisciplinary team, for conditions such as cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease, with emphasis on high ethical and clinical standards.
What you would do
- Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy procedures (polypectomy, mucosal resection, stricture dilation and stenting)
- Carry out complex colorectal surgeries, including laparoscopic and open resections
- Manage emergency colorectal conditions such as obstruction, perforation and massive lower GI bleeding
- Educate patients and families on procedures, risks and post-operative care, and obtain informed consent
- Interpret endoscopic findings in conjunction with imaging and pathology to ensure accurate diagnosis
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and provide expert consultation on colorectal cases

- Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent) from a recognised authority
- Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency programme
- Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery (WACS/ASCRS or equivalent)
- Valid medical licence and registration with the relevant medical council (e.g., MDCN)
- Consultant-level experience in colorectal surgery (7+ years post-certification)
- Proven expertise in high-volume diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and complex open and laparoscopic resections
