Chief Technology Officer

About this role

This is a founding leadership role based in Abuja for a Chief Technology Officer who will define the technology strategy, design the platform architecture, and build the engineering function from the ground up. The role reports operationally to the CEO and to the Board on platform integrity matters, and involves leading an AI-assisted engineering function to deliver secure, scalable, high-quality software. You will work with commercial and executive teams to align technology delivery with validated client needs and regulatory standards. What you would do

• Define and own the technology strategy and long-term engineering roadmap.
• Design and oversee a secure, modular platform architecture for multiple institutions.
• Lead the delivery of high-quality, AI-enabled software to maximise productivity and scalability.
• Ensure solutions meet security, performance and assurance standards before deployment.
• Oversee the core platform and product portfolio balancing client needs with strategic capabilities.
• Establish engineering standards, architecture principles and governance across products.
• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team focused on excellence and accountability.
• Translate client requirements into feasible, secure, scalable solutions with commercial input.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering productivity, quality and delivery performance.
• Maintain cybersecurity, software assurance and technology risk management frameworks.

• Minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience with responsibility for enterprise platform architecture and delivery of complex, scalable systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience building technology platforms for government, defence, intelligence, cybersecurity or security-sensitive sectors.
• Experience building engineering teams and platforms in start-up, scale-up or founding settings.
• Familiarity with secure deployments including sovereign, air-gapped or classified infrastructure.
• Track record establishing engineering governance, architecture standards and secure development practices.
• Nigerian citizenship or substantial experience within Nigerian technology or public sector environment.
• Proven ability to design and lead development of secure, enterprise-grade platforms in regulated environments.
• Hands-on experience applying AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development, testing and productivity.
• Strong understanding of secure software architecture, cybersecurity, cloud and on-premise deployments, systems integration and best practices.
