Cable Pulling Technician
About this role
SPIE Oil & Gas Services seeks a Cable Pulling Technician for its Bonga offshore project in Lagos, Nigeria. The role involves reading installation documents and carrying out pulling and installation of power, control, instrumentation, telecom, fibre-optic, fire alarm, CCTV and other ELV cables, while ensuring proper routing and safety.
What you would do
- Read and interpret cable schedules, routing layouts, termination drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, tray layouts and installation specifications.
- Carry out cable pulling and installation for power, control, instrumentation, telecom, fibre-optic, fire alarm, CCTV and other ELV cables as assigned.
- Verify routes, tray availability, conduits, ducts and trenches before starting pulling; set up drums, rollers, pulling ropes, winches and related equipment.
- Ensure cables are properly supported and arranged on trays, ladders, conduits, ducts, trenches and underground routes; maintain separation between circuits.
- Dress, tag and secure installed cables; assist with cable preparation and routing to termination points.
- Conduct pre-pulling inspections and comply with PTW, JSA, risk assessments and HSE policies; report any unsafe acts or damaged cables.
What they are asking for
- Minimum of an HND or BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Technology or a related technical discipline (equivalent vocational qualification considered).
- 8–10 years of hands-on experience in electrical construction on oil and gas EPC projects.
- 4–5 years in a supervisory role covering cable tray installation and cable routing.
- Offshore experience on platforms, FPSOs or deepwater projects is advantageous.
- Hazardous-area certification such as CompEx and a Working at Height certificate are preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret cable schedules and installation drawings; familiarity with PTW, JSA and HSE compliance.
