Bentonite Operator
About this role
The Bentonite Operator will run and maintain slurry preparation, circulation, treatment and recycling equipment used in bored piling and diaphragm wall construction. The role ensures a steady supply of slurry that meets operational needs while keeping equipment reliable and safe, and maintaining accurate records. The position is located in Lagos with project deployments across Nigeria and requires on-site work, including weekends, at various sites. The employer provides accommodation and other project-related support and aims to hire someone with practical experience in bentonite plants and related systems. The role targets candidates with relevant technical qualifications and a background in heavy civil or geotechnical site operations.
What you would do
- Operate bentonite mixing plants, slurry pumps, desanding units, storage tanks and related equipment.
- Prepare and mix bentonite or polymer slurry according to instructions.
- Monitor slurry circulation, transfer, storage and recovery during construction.
- Ensure adequate slurry availability to support piling and diaphragm wall operations.
- Monitor equipment gauges, controls, flow rates and other indicators.
- Report unusual equipment behaviour or changes in operating conditions.
- Conduct pre-start checks and routine inspections of slurry plant equipment.
- Identify leaks, blockages, vibrations, pressure changes and other faults.
- Carry out routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance within training scope.
- Maintain clean, organised and safe plant areas and assist with repairs as needed.
What they are asking for
- Technical, vocational or trade qualification preferred.
- Minimum of five years' relevant experience operating bentonite plants, slurry systems or similar equipment.
- Practical experience with mixing plants, pumps, desanders, pipelines and slurry storage systems.
- Equipment operator competency certification or OEM training is an advantage.
- Experience on bored piling or diaphragm wall construction sites is desirable.
- Strong practical equipment operating skills and ability to follow procedures.
