Backend / Integration Engineer
About this role
Strivo Labs in Lagos is seeking a Backend / Integration Engineer to build, maintain and optimise backend services and integrations that connect the lending platform with third-party providers for identity verification, credit assessment, payments and collections. The role focuses on secure, reliable, well-tested integrations, internal APIs for customer portals and dashboards, and production system stability. The engineer will document processes and API specifications, manage credentials securely, and collaborate with the team to improve performance and reliability. The position requires hands-on work with backend services, APIs, testing and incident response, within a fintech-focused environment.
What you would do
- Build and optimise third-party integrations with webhooks, callbacks and retry mechanisms
- Design and maintain internal APIs used by the customer portal, staff console and dashboards
- Implement automated tests and monitoring for integrations to ensure reliability
- Document integration processes, APIs and technical workflows
- Manage credentials securely and maintain audit trails
- Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve production incidents promptly
- Prepare post-incident reports with root causes and corrective actions
- Collaborate with the Automation Manager and technical team to improve performance and efficiency
- Follow software development practices including version control, testing and deployment procedures
- Ensure backend services and integrations comply with data protection and security requirements
What they are asking for
- Minimum of 3 years of experience building and maintaining backend services using Python or TypeScript/Node.js
- Experience developing and integrating REST APIs, webhooks and callbacks
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL and database management
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests
- Good understanding of Git and version control workflows
- Hands-on experience with payment gateway integrations, fintech platforms, lending systems or related financial services
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in production environments
- Ability to write clear technical documentation and work well in a team
- Ideal additional knowledge: experience with n8n or similar workflow tools, Next.js and Prisma, CI/CD pipelines, and awareness of data privacy principles (NDPA)
