Automation Engineer for Air Separation Unit (Industrial Gases) - Senior Level
About this role
The role is for an experienced Automation Engineer to work at the Air Separation Unit of an industrial gases plant in Ogun. It targets senior candidates with a strong focus on control systems within cryogenic air separation. What you would do
- Develop and configure control logic using Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal or Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
- Build operator interface screens, trend tools, and multi-user server-client architectures in SCADA/HMI systems
- Program automated start-up, shut-down, deriming and molecular sieve purification sequences
- Monitor and tune PID loops for process parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow, levels and turbine speeds
- Participate in Functional Safety activities (SIL/HAZOP) and implement Emergency Shutdown Systems
- Configure field communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, OPC) and conduct FAT/SAT and plant commissioning
- Lead control system execution from loop checks to initial plant start-up for greenfield/brownfield projects
- Design algorithms for advanced process control to optimise energy use in power-intensive air separation
- Oversee safety system design to achieve required SIL levels for safe operation
- Support industrial networking and commissioning activities across the plant
What they are asking for
- OND/HND/BSc/BEng in Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical or Chemical/Process Engineering with a control focus
- Professional Certifications in Functional Safety or Professional Engineer status are highly valued
- Six-plus years of senior-level experience in commissioning and control system execution (greenfield/brownfield)
- Experience with DCS/SCADA platforms (Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley) and HMI software
- Knowledge of safety instrumented systems design and ESD implementations
- Strong background in process control loops, APC concepts and compressor/gas process control
- Experience with FAT, SAT, and plant commissioning
- Exposure to hazardous gas handling and high-pressure system safety requirements
