Automation Engineer for Air Separation Unit (Industrial Gases) - Senior Level

Cometstar Manufacturing Company Limited is hiring an Automation Engineer at the Air Separation Unit within its Industrial Gases plant located in Agbara, Ogun. The role targets candidates with senior-level experience in automation engineering for cryogenic air separation, including design, programming and maintenance of control systems. The job involves SCADA/HMI management, industrial networking and commissioning, process automation, loop control, safety system design, and DCS/PLC programming using platforms such as Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal or Allen-Bradley. What you would do
- Build operator interface screens and analysis tools for SCADA/HMI systems (e.g., WinCC or Yokogawa CENTUM VP).
- Configure field communication protocols and perform FAT, SAT and plant commissioning tasks.
- Program start-up, shut-down, deriming and molecular sieve purification sequences.
- Monitor and optimise PID loops for process parameters such as pressure, temperatures, flow, levels and turbine speeds.
- Implement and tune Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) and participate in Functional Safety (SIL/HAZOP) activities.
- Develop control logic for DCS/PLC platforms (Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix).
- Assist in safety-related design and sign-off on safety interlocks and plant design.
- Lead control system commissioning from loop checks to initial plant start-up in greenfield or brownfield projects.
- Support integration of field devices and network configurations for the Air Separation Unit.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical or Chemical/Process Engineering with a control systems focus.
- Senior level with 6+ years of experience in automation and process control for industrial plants.
- Experience with safety system design for ESD and high SIL levels; professional certifications in functional safety are highly valued.
- Knowledge of SCADA/HMI tooling, DCS/PLC programming (Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix).
- Experience with commissioning and safety studies (FAT/SAT, HAZOP).
- Understanding of air separation processes and cryogenic plant operations is preferred.
