Assistant Manager, Engineering
About this role
Hyatt is seeking an Assistant Manager Engineering to join the pre-opening team at Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja. The role supports the Engineering Manager in running the hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety systems and building infrastructure function safely and efficiently. It involves leading the engineering team, managing preventive maintenance, and delivering timely technical service to guests. The position requires supervising day-to-day engineering activities, maintaining systems, and supporting sustainability efforts.
What you would do
- Supervise and coordinate daily engineering operations
- Ensure maintenance of hotel systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, chillers, elevators and water treatment
- Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house and major equipment
- Respond to guest issues, maintenance requests and emergencies promptly
- Monitor energy usage and support cost-saving and sustainability initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, logs and inspections
- Ensure compliance of fire-life safety systems with Hyatt and local regulations
- Lead, mentor and supervise engineering team members
- Assist with scheduling, task assignment and performance evaluation
- Support engineering projects, renovations and vendor coordination
What they are asking for
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or related engineering field
- 3–5 years of technical/maintenance experience in a hotel or similar environment
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Experience with BMS, HVAC systems and life-safety systems strongly preferred
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills
- Good leadership, communication and team-management abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance tools or systems
- Computer literacy (MS Office; CMMS preferred)
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb and lift equipment; comfortable in heat, confined spaces and at heights
