About this role
Caava Group, a holding company creating AI-driven insurance solutions, is seeking an entry-level AI Engineer in Lagos (hybrid). The role supports building, testing and maintaining AI features used across the Evolve insurance management platform, with a focus on data preparation, model and LLM API integrations, and evaluation. The position targets candidates with internship, academic or personal project experience who can learn quickly, document work and seek guidance as needed. Reporting to the Technical Lead of the Evolve team, you will collaborate with software, QA and product teams to implement AI components and ensure reliable behaviour of AI features. Growth path leads to Associate AI Engineer based on performance and business need.
What you would do
- Develop Python components, scripts and integrations exposed to Evolve services via APIs
- Add input validation, error handling and tests under guidance
- Prepare and validate datasets for development and evaluation
- Check data formats, missing values and labeling quality; document transformations and limitations
- Integrate models or LLM APIs into Evolve workflows and support prompt configuration
- Create and run evaluation cases covering typical, edge and failure scenarios
- Compare outputs against criteria and document errors, limitations and regressions
- Investigate unreliable outputs and integration issues and escalate as needed
- Support deployment and monitoring under guidance and participate in code reviews and documentation

- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or related field or equivalent practical training with relevant projects
- Foundational Python skills from coursework, internship or projects
- Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, evaluation metrics and model limits
- Familiarity with REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, Git, automated tests and debugging in an existing codebase
- Ability to work with structured data and document technical approaches and results
- Attention to detail, sound judgment with data handling, clear communication and openness to feedback
