AI and Automation Lead
About this role
The role leads practical delivery of AI and automation initiatives to create measurable business value for SBC. It involves working with the Head of Business Solutions and business owners to identify, scope and develop a working prototype, with defined success measures and timelines based on value, feasibility, data readiness and resources. The position covers discovery, delivery, integration, security, operational readiness and continuous improvement across multiple business units. It requires hands-on experience building and supporting automation or AI-enabled workflows and collaborating with platform owners and partners. What you would do
- Understand and prioritise business problems and map existing processes
- Evaluate requests and determine opportunities for process improvement, automation or AI
- Define requirements, ownership, baselines and acceptance criteria and advise on priorities
- Promote AI literacy and solution adoption across functions
- Monitor AI capability maturity and readiness within the organisation
- Establish an AI assessment framework for opportunities
- Design, build, test and support workflows using n8n, APIs and low‑code tools
- Integrate AI capabilities into workflows for processing, extraction, analysis and knowledge access
- Develop and progress the jointly selected prototype through pilots and release gates
- Implement human approvals, exception handling, monitoring and recovery mechanisms before production release
What they are asking for
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years delivering and supporting business automation or AI-enabled workflows
- Ability to build and troubleshoot n8n workflows with approvals and monitoring
- Proficiency in Python or JavaScript, REST APIs, authentication, structured data handling, SQL and Git
- Experience with Google Workspace automation, AppSheet, Apps Script or Google Cloud; ERP integrations like SAP; Azure DevOps Server
- Experience with FMCG or manufacturing operations and retrieval-augmented generation or document processing
- Mentoring engineers or contributing to an AI or automation Centre of Excellence
- Experience evaluating AI outputs, cost control and appropriate human review
- Strong business analysis, problem-solving, documentation and stakeholder communication
- Working knowledge of secure development, data protection and operational support
