About this role
Role: Advocacy and Community Liaison Officer with the International Rescue Committee in Borno. The role involves designing and implementing advocacy and community engagement strategies, acting as a link between IRC, communities, government stakeholders, partners and other actors to help ensure community-centred programming. It supports advocacy by generating evidence, mapping stakeholders, engaging with policy makers and gathering community feedback to inform programme priorities and strengthen accountability.
What you would do
- Implement advocacy and community engagement strategies aligned with country priorities.
- Facilitate engagement with government ministries, community leaders, civil society organisations and humanitarian actors.
- Support coordination and communication between IRC field teams and external stakeholders at state and community levels.
- Document humanitarian needs, community concerns and programme impact to inform advocacy messaging.
- Support community consultations, stakeholder meetings and engagement forums; strengthen accountability mechanisms across programme locations.
- Monitor political and humanitarian developments relevant to IRC programming and advocacy priorities; support integration of protection, accountability and community participation across programmes.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in political science, international relations, mass communication, development studies, social sciences, public administration, law or related field; Master's degree an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in advocacy, community engagement, stakeholder coordination, humanitarian programming or related field.
- Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, government institutions or humanitarian organisations.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with government stakeholders, communities and partners.
- Experience in Northeast or Northwest Nigeria humanitarian context is highly desirable.
